I, as an English tutor with experience and оn maternity leave now, have a great desire and a free time to spread my point of view which helps you (future and real students) to make the right decisions and to avoid errors, that I`ve met during my teaching. I will be you, my client, who wants to learn English, for the purpose.
Firstly, the thought arises I need a good tutor or a course of English, then we begin to look through the pages of Internet, to ask our friends or find out reviews. But nobody will tempt you to think “What is your original purpose to learn foreign language!?” And what is your own specific intent?
It is a rude mistake to believe that you learn the language because it`s just necessity, a sort of tribute to fashion, everyone is in process, why not me? English is not the end in itself! REMEMBER THIS! English is like an instrument for getting your main purpose in your life. For example you are going in a trip to have a rest, made it clear for me then, why you are getting an Advanced Level? Basic course will be enough. If you are getting the goal in you career and your new post will require foreign language skills in order to communicate with foreigners, and you are a lawyer, for example, then you should attend two courses (Basic - for communication purpose in everyday life; and Professional language course - in order to use professional terms during business meetings).
Tell me, please, has anyone impugned the whole educational system of English courses, that imposes on us? Sometimes it seems to me, that the advertisеment is too exaggerated about different levels and new methods in order we were dependent on the educational process and forgot our main purpose.
When I teach children, it becomes very sorry! Because, sometimes they delve into the rules so deeply in modern textbooks, that children forget why they learn this school subject. Why do they need to start their studying English so early (in SECONDARY SCHOOL)? In order to master quickly the language? And where is the finishing level for students? Maybe somebody will use his skills in future, but someone won`t. Then why do they drive students to a deadlock? Should we revise the educational criteria? The educational process of studying foreign language is realised ( or should be realised) by spiral principle? I mean, every year a student learns the same grammar material with new information that is added to the topic. I speak now as a former teacher of English who has taught children of Primary school and has studied different methods of training English at the Institute.
Following conclude, ask yourself ( Why am I going to learn English? Why is my child studying it at school? What is your own real goal in it?) and if you answer honestly, you will realise your risone why you should or shouldn't study English. And then? if you need, start finding good tutor with the list of your answers. Give him your risons and your own purposes, but do not his! And I wish you Good Luck in your education!

Я, как репетитор английского языка со стажем и на данном этапе своей жизни сидящий в декретном отпуске, имею желание и располагаю временем делиться со своей точки зрения теми соображениями, которые помогут вам (будущим или настоящим студентам) принимать правильные решения и не делать тех ошибок, которые встречались в моей практике. Для этого я встану на ваше место, место моих клиентов, которые пожелали изучать иностранный язык.
Возникает мысль - нужен репетитор или хорошие курсы, начинаем судорожно искать данные в интернете, спрашивать по знакомым, узнавать отзывы. Но ни один из ваших знакомых и интернет не натолкнет вас на мысль о том, а какова изначальная цель изучения языка!? И именно ваша конкретная цель?
Ошибочно полагать, что изучение языка - это просто необходимость, дань моде, все учат, а я что ж ? Английский не есть самоцель! ЗАПОМНИТЕ ЭТО! Английский - это средство для достижения ваших жизненно важных для вас целей. Например, вам предстоит загородная поездка в туристических целях, объясните тогда, на кой вам изучать уровень Advanced? Базового курса будет достаточно. Если у вас открываются перспективы на работе и вы будете обязаны общаться с заказчиками из за рубежа, а вы, к примеру, юрист, то вам нужно прослушать два курса (Базовый для того чтобы научиться изъясняться в бытовых ситуациях и Профессиональный для того, чтобы оперировать профессиональными терминами во время деловой беседы).
Скажите, хотя бы кто нибудь из вас ставил под сомнение весь тот принцип образовательной системы, который нам навязывают на курсах? Мне иногда кажется, что уж слишком раздута реклама про различные уровни и методики преподавания для того, чтобы мы просто напросто подсели на процесс изучения, забывая о основных целях своего посещения данных занятий.
Занимаясь с детьми, становиться по особому печально! Ведь порой в современных учебниках настолько усугубляют в правила, что дети просто забывают основную задачу, для чего нужен им данный предмет в жизни? Зачем начинать изучать (в ОБЩЕОБРАЗОВАТЕЛЬНОЙ ШКОЛЕ) язык с ранних лет? Что бы побыстрее освоить? А до какого уровня его стоит знать? Может кому-то он в жизни потом и пригодиться, а кому то нет! То зачем загонять детей в глухой угол!? Может достаточно пересмотреть критерии образования? Ведь по школьной программе процесс изучения иностранного языка осуществляется (ну или должен осуществляться) по принципу спирали, то есть каждый год ребенок проходит одну и туже тему по грамматике, наслаивая на неё новые слова и добавляя к ней новые правила. Это я говорю, как бывший учитель, который работал в младших классах и изучал всевозможные методики преподавания в институте.
Вывод следующий, задавайте себе вопросы (Зачем мне нужен английский? Зачем моему ребенку нужно изучать язык? Какова истинная цель?) и только ответив на них честно вы поймете нужен ли вам иностранный язык или может и не нужен вовсе. А потом с составленными в письменном виде ответами, начинайте поиск преподавателя. Задавайте ему конкретные цели, ваши цели, а не его! И удачи вам в образовательном процессе!
